Tips For Finding The Best Abdominal Exercise That Works

With our often sedentary lifestyles, it is no wonder that many of us have just a tad too much fat in the abdominal area. Maybe you have just had a baby, and baby stretched that tummy out good! Perhaps you have recently lost a lot of weight, but find that stubborn belly fat just will not go away.


Do not feel discouraged. Abdominal exercise will melt that fat away with just a half hour of effort on your part each day. You don not need special equipment and all can be accomplished while listening to music or watching TV.


The first recommended abdominal exercise is the old fashioned sit up. You may remember doing this in school in gym class. Sit ups work. If it has been a while, you may want to start with the sissy sit ups. This easier sit up starts with lying on your back on the floor, with knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Clasp your hands together, behind your neck with elbows facing out.


Keeping your feet flat on the floor, pull your upper body up, bringing your elbows forward in front of your face and touch your knees with your elbows. Return to the lying down position and repeat. When beginning your program, start with 25 sit ups, increasing the number by 5 every other day. When you can do 50 easily, you are ready for the harder style of sit ups.


The harder type of sit up goes like this. Lie down on the floor on your back, legs extended and heels touching the floor. Your arms should be extended behind you with the backs of your hands touching the floor. Placing your hands together, pull yourself up and extend your hands until they touch your toes.


Yikes, that is hard! Persevere. Shoot for 25 of these sit-ups per session. Increase by 5 every other day, progressing to 50 as you get stronger. By this time, you will be seeing real results. The sit up is the abdominal exercise without equal.


Another good abdominal exercise is the toe touch. Stand with your feet together and arms at your sides. Bend from the waist and touch your toes, repeating 25 times. As you progress, try to touch the palms of your hands to the floor in front of your feet. You can eventually progress to 50 per session.


Yet another abdominal exercise to quickly trim belly fat is this: begin in a standing position with your arms at your sides and back straight. Raise your right arm over your head while sliding your left arm straight down your left leg. Reach with your right arm, extending your right hand over your head as though trying to touch your left shoulder. Use a bouncing motion, trying three times to touch your left shoulder, all the while keeping your back straight. Reverse arms and repeat.


Begin with 15 repetitions and work up to 25. If you do these abdominal exercises faithfully, you will be looking good in a months time.

Question by Kristy: I feel like crap after working out?
I am trying to lose weight and 3 weeks ago started going to the gym. When I work out I feel a little dizzy. I know it says on the machines “if you feel dizzy or exhausted stop” but it happens to me everytime. My heart rate stays at about 165-185.

After I workout, I feel nauseous and exhausted. I immediately want to go to bed and sleep. I feel to drained to even walk to the parking lot. Then I feel tired all day. I know you might think I am “overdoing it”, but all I do is run a mile, walk a mile, do 8 minutes on the elliptical, and 1 mile on the bike.

I have been doing this for about 3 weeks now and I still feel crappy afterwards. Also, my face gets really red like its sunburned. I drink lots of water before and during the workout.

Is this normal when you are first starting out? I thought my body would be used to it by now. I would like to feel refreshed rather than exhausted.

Sounds like you’re getting low blood sugar.
Might not be eating enough, or not getting enough calories or eating enough protein or eating too many unhealthy “diet foods” Might need to keep work at a slower pace with less weight..

Question by Jimmy N: What abdominal gas problem do I have?
Ok So I’ve been having some abdominal gas issues for months now. Not just my stomach in particular but possibly intestines too.

My stomach gets seriously bloated with gas ( i mean A LOT)… sometimes so much that I have to lay down on my stomach just so I can fart it out… (Being serious though)
So it would fill up and once I fart it out, it stays like 1-5 MINUTES for it to fill up again… and I keep doing this for a good hour or two… Its a LOT of gas after gas after gas…….

Ok well sometimes I feel the gas in my actual stomach… where it can either go both ways… as a burp or fart….
Other times it feels like it builds in my intestine area where it can only be farts…

But this seriously happens every other day for me… I’ve never had this symptom before and its NOT normal for me…. It started about 5 months ago… It didn’t bother me before because I would just burp it out… but now its going the other end and sometimes I can’t hold it…

I went to the doctors last week and I told him I have huge amounts of gas in my stomach and he told me to take Maalox… It seems to work… but sometimes the gas buildup seems to be REALLY fast… that the Maalox can’t handle… I don’t want to take too much Maalox or I’ll get constipated (side affects of Maalox).

Then I visited him again yesterday cuz I got results for a blood test (everything is good), but I asked him about my gas problem and he said the same thing to me last week “eat fruit, vegetables, and exercise”
And then I asked him about if I should continue to take Maalox and he goes “no you don’t need that”…. I’m thinking …. wtf…. then I said Okay and left…

I eat fruits and vegetables everyday… along with meat/chicken of course… and i drink ONLY and a lot of water….. I walk like for a good straight hour each day on campus… I’m 5’8 and 145lbs

Bottom line is, I’ve never had this gas problem in my life…. Maalox helps for a bit but not entirely… I need some advice guys… My doctor thinks its just a simple gas problem… but it seriously keeps on going….

You can always try taking a product such as Beano before eating meals and see if that helps.

It sounds as if you are eating properly and exercising well, good for you.

Keep a list of what you eat and drink for a week along with your exercise regimen. On you next trip to the doctor’s, show him. You can insist that he look deeper into the problem.
