How To Choose The Best Elliptical Machine And Save Money Too

In the historical records of fitness and aerobics, elliptical machines are the only aerobic products that have made a major breakthrough. Many people today have chosen the elliptical machine over the high impact treadmill. When shopping for an elliptical you want to find the best elliptical machine of the highest quality while saving as much money as you can of course.

Because the elliptical trainer is a low or no impact machine it’s a perfect choice for anyone suffering from or recovering from any joint problems such as that in the knees, ankle, hip or back. The higher-end machines, like the SportsArt Fitness, Quantum Fitness, Precor, Life Fitness, and brands found in specialty stores, can handle users who weigh up to 400 lbs and range in price from 00 to 00 (US). Many of the consumer models found in sporting good and big-box retail stores can only handle users weighing no more than 250 lbs and cost about 00 (US) or less. If you haven’t made a decision yet and still just thinking about home fitness equipment, seriously consider an elliptical trainer.

The elliptical machine is quickly gaining major popularity in and out of the gym. It’s an excellent choice for home equipment, especially if you don’t want the long time traditional treadmill or stationary exercise bike. The best way to determine which machine is the best fit for you is by making a list of all the necessary features that you’re looking for in a trainer.

Elliptical machines give you a weight resistant workout which is important because, they burn calories faster and more efficiently than other methods. Many people look into ellipticals because they store so well and can use them only when they need them and hide them in a closet when they’re not in use. These trainers use both the arms and the legs in a smooth and natural motion making it a cross trainer,

The important basic features of elliptical machines include the drive system, the resistance system and the length of stride. The general estimates of calories burned with an elliptical are about 387 calories for a 150 pound woman who has done about 30 minutes of elliptical exercise. And with elliptical exercise equipment, your legs travel in an elongated circular type of motion.

There are many benefits for using this equipment but probably one of the most important benefits is the absence of any impact. And recent studies have shown that because elliptical machines are optimizing energy expenditure, the average person will burn more calories. The elliptical exercise equipment combines the movements and benefits of hiking, cross-country skiing, and biking.

It’s best to look for a machine that has a few programs preset into the computer. They provide healthy bodies by maintaining a healthy bone density. And most of them are smaller than a treadmill and can be easily moved to clean or to store away.

Some health tips: with quality elliptical exercise equipment, the movement you feel is fluid. The workouts are safe for the joints and provide a no-impact workout as opposed to a treadmill where your feet hit the deck with every step. While using an elliptical gives you a no-impact workout, the resistance exercise helps to build bone density and fight off osteoporosis.

You can save a lot of money by checking out the prices online and comparing them to the prices in your local sports or big box stores. Many of the online dealers offer free shipping. If you know the model you want you can try it out locally and then compare prices online. Used sporting goods stores and sports consignment stores have slightly used ellipticals at substantially lower prices. Some will be in good condition because a lot of people buy equipment and then don’t use it as you probably know.

The best elliptical machines offer so many advantages over other forms of exercise and other exercise equipment that most people today choose ellipticals. Buyers can choose from a wide variety of trainers that are sold in the marketplace. They will continue to develop with new features as time goes by and provide an optimum workout for its users.

Abdominal Exercises to Eliminate Belly Fat

Now that spring seems to finally be back in our lives, many people are concerned about losing those few extra pounds of chub which stand between them and a sculpted midriff. Those folks who let themselves go a little in the winter months may be working overtime now that it is April and thoughts of bikinis are dancing in their heads. The good news is that there are, of course, abdominal exercises to speed along the process. Some are better than others, including these few, which are good specifically for trimming belly fat. As with any workout routine, be sure to consult a professional before beginning and always warm up properly to avoid injury.

Hip Lift

For this abdominal exercise, you will need to lie on your back on a flat surface, such as the floor. Use a mat or towel to cushion your spine. Put your arms at your sides with palms facing up to the ceiling. Put your legs straight up in the air so that the soles of your feet are facing the ceiling and your legs make about a ninety degree angle with your torso. Keep your knees unbent and as straight as possible. Now, contract your ab muscles so that it feels like your belly button is being pulled toward your spine, while at the same time gently lifting your hips off the floor. Raise your hips to height of a few inches, keeping your legs extended straight upward. Hold this position, then slowly lower your hips back to the floor. Repeat for an entire set.

Seated Torso Twist

Stay on the floor for this abdominal exercise, getting into a seated position. Bend your knees so that your feet are flat on the floor. Position your feet about hip width apart. Extend your arms straight out in front of you, interlocking your fingers. Contract your abdominals and lean back about forty-five degrees. Holding the contraction, rotate your torso as far to one side as you are comfortably able. Use your abdominals to control this motion so that your upper body moves at once, do not lead with your arms. Remember to keep your arms in from of you with fingers locked– pretend you are aiming an imaginary gun. Once you have rotated as far as you feel comfortable, rotate back to center, then to the other side. Repeat these steps for an entire set. Take care to go slow and keep a controlled movement. Do not allow your momentum to twist you.

Avoid Shoulder Tendonitis Therapy at your Peril

Shoulder tendonitis can begin as just mild shoulder pain especially when you lift your arm to the front or side. You might find that you just get a twinge of pain when you reach for something or struggle to get comfortable when you go to bed because your shoulder hurts when you lie down.

All of the above are early symptoms of shoulder tendonitis. This is caused by inflammed tendons in your rotator cuff which is a group of four muscles that help to stabilise the shoulder joint by pulling the head of the humerus into the socket of the shoulder. The rotator cuff muscles are essential for a healthy and strong shoulder joint but unfortunately are all fairly easy to injure.

Some of us are born with inherently weak shoulders and are more susceptible to shoulder and rotator cuff problems. Some of us will get shoulder tendonitis because of a sporting activity or work. Any repetitive over arm movement such as throwing a ball or stacking shelves in a supermarket can all lead to inflamed tendons in the shoulder. Bad posture can lead to shoulder tendon problems as can age. Just gaining a few yeras is often enough to set things off.

So what should you do? It is tempting with shoulder pain to simply take some pain killers and carry on regardless. In the short term you might get away with it. Some shoulder problems will get better with a couple of days rest but if your symptoms continue to trouble you then you may be heading for something more serious. If you have had shoulder pain for more than three days then get it checked out.

Shoulder tendonitis is inflammation of the tendons. Because the shoulder is such a complex joint it can lead to you getting an impinged shoulder where one of the tendons is getting pinched or impinged against bone whenever you lift your arm. The rubbing action of the bone on tendon causes the tendon to gradually becoming frayed. The fraying causes more inflammation and suddenly you are in a downward spiral with surgery waiting at the end of it.

Shoulder tendonitis therapy is essential to avoid this. It will start with rest to let the tendon heal combined with treatment of the inflammation using ice packs and anti-inflammatory drugs. When teh inflammation is under control the pain will go. This is not a cure. In order to preventteh condition returning you need to do some shoulder specific exercises to strengthen the shoulder muscles. This will in turn help teh damaged muscle, allowing it to heal and avoiding future injury.

Shoulder Tendonitis is a very common problem. Nearly eight million Americans will visit their doctor this year complaining of shoulder pain. Some of them are going to need surgery followed by physical therapy to sort out their problems, usually because they ignored a small problem and let it get worse. You can avoid this simply by taking care of your shoulders and doing some specific shoulder exercises.

The great news is that you don’t even need to join a gym. These exercises are low resistance and low weight exercises that can easily be done at home.

No excuse really, is there?

Abdominal Exercises to Work Off Those Love Handles

A major complaint of people who want to look more fit is belly fat. Specifically, a large number of people have trouble with “love handles.” Far from lovely or lovable, these are deposits of fat that take up residence on the sides of one’s lower torso, around the external oblique muscles. Traditional crunches and sit-ups will not do much for this sort of chub, as they mainly work the abdominal muscles and not the obliques. The good news, however, is that there are a few abdominal exercises which specifically target the obliques, helping trim love handles. As with any new physical activity, consult a professional before beginning and be sure to properly warm up to avoid injury.

Side Bend

A simple exercise, side bends are also probably the most effective method for losing love handles. Start by standing upright. Position your feet shoulder width apart and bend your knees slightly. Lower your whole torso to one side, then back to the other. Lean only side to side, not backwards or forwards.

Torso Twist

This abdominal exercise is also effective at reducing love handles, and is good to do right after the side bends in your routine, as it is also done in a standing position. Again, with feet shoulder width apart, slowly twist the body to one side, then to the other. The key here is to twist from your torso, not from the hips. As much of the twisting work as possible should be done by your oblique muscles, not your hip flexors. Keep your torso upright with no bending.

Side Crunch

The next two abdominal exercises require you to get off your feet and lie down, preferably on the floor or other flat surface. Use a mat or towel as a cushion if you have a particularly hard floor to work with. Lie down on one side. For simplicity, let us say you are on your right side to start. Bring your right arm across your waist so that your right hand comes to rest on your left side. Touch your ear with the fingertips of your left hand, so that your left elbows winds up pointing straight upward. Lift your shoulders up off the floor while simultaneously raising your left leg to height of about twelve inches (30 cm). Contract your obliques as you do this. Hold for a few seconds, then gently lie back down. Do this for an entire set, then switch to the right side.

Seated Knee Drop

First, position yourself on the floor so that you are resting on your hipbones (not sitting on your butt). You can put your hands on the floor behind you to keep yourself stable in this position. Bend your knees so that your feet are flat on the floor. Put your ankles together. Now lower your knees to the right. Your feet will roll on to their sides, but should remain on the floor. Continue this lowering move until your knees are about six inches above the floor. Hold for one second, then go back up and down to the left side. Move slowly and under control, using your abdominal muscles rather than momentum to raise and lower your legs.

Lower Abdominal Exercises versus Upper Abdominal Exercises

In fitness, some people are confused about the topic of upper abs exercises and lower abs exercises, so here is some information to set the record straight.  The main muscle, that people talk about when they discuss the upper abs and lower abs, is the rectus abdominus.  Rectus means straight, and abdominus refers to the abdomen.  So simply put, the rectus abdominus runs straight down the abdomen.  The rectus abdominus is also the muscle that gives a lean person that six pack look.

The rectus abdominus is 1 muscle, but it has tendinous intersections that separate muscle fibers forming distinct sections.  Many people argue that because the rectus abdominus is one muscle you cannot isolate certain parts of the muscle, but I think the conversations around this topic get confusing because of semantics.  You cannot isolate only one section of the rectus abdominus while the other sections are not working, but you can emphasize one area over another.  So the problem comes with people using the terms isolate and emphasize interchangeably.

Our nervous system is so intricate.  Each nerve has thousands of nerve cells and each muscle has thousands of muscle fibers.  This allows us to move with accuracy, precision, agility, and grace.  The rectus abdominus is supplied by multiple nerves that work in a coordinated fashion to create a variety of movements.  The multiple nerve supply helps us move in different ways, and the upper abs and lower abs are emphasized when we do different movement.

The upper abs (upper part of the rectus abdominus) are emphasized when the trunk moves forward like in a crunch or sit up.  Ball crunches are also a good upper abdominal exercise, and crunch machines and ab machines will also emphasize the upper abs.  Even though the upper abs are emphasized during crunches, crunches also work the lower abs.  The entire rectus abdominus will work during any abs exercise when your trunk bends forwards or flexes.

There is just more emphasis on the lower abs when the legs are moving.

Now, one thing that I must mention is that abs exercises do not magically melt away stomach fat.  Doing upper abs exercises will not magically get rid of the fat on the upper part of your stomach, and doing lower abs exercises will not magically get rid of the fat on the lower part of your stomach.  This is known as the spot reduction myth.  If you want to lose stomach fat, you should use a comprehensive approach to fitness and healthy eating.

In regards to your ab workout, try to exercise your abdominal muscles 2-3 times a week, and include both upper ab and lower abs exercises to work your body from a variety of directions.  By using different forms of exercises, you will have a more balanced body.

Looking For The Best Elliptical Machine And Save Your Money Too?

Buying an elliptical machine online can be difficult if you haven’t spent any time comparing a few reviews and ratings. Picking out the best elliptical machine is more complex than just walking in a sporting goods store, trying one out and buying it on the spot without having done any comparisons. Higher-end elliptical machines, like the SportsArt Fitness, Quantum Fitness, Precor, Life Fitness, and brands found in sporting goods or specialty stores, can handle users up to 180 kg (400 lbs), and usually range in price from 00 to 00 (US).

But you can find low cost or cheap elliptical machines doing just a little bit of research online and save a lot of money. When shopping for an elliptical trainer you want to find the best elliptical machine possible of the best quality while saving yourself as much money as you can.

Traditionally Consumer Reports magazine is a very good place to compare features and costs of elliptical machines if they’ve done a review in the last two to three years. Even if the machines are now older models, there is lots of good information about features and what to look out for. If you don’t subscribe, call the reference librarian at your local public library and ask them to look up the information. Most librarians will fax you copies of the review.

When shopping online or at your local fitness, sporting goods or big box stores always ask for a discount no matter where you end up buying a machine. There are business discounts, professional discounts, health professional discounts, nurse’s discounts, senior discounts, student discounts, college student discounts, disability discounts and many others for example. Whether or not they give you a discount you can also ask them to throw something in with your purchase. Just make sure to ask. Discounts are given all the time. They want to make the sale.

The elliptical machine is quickly gaining popularity both in the health clubs and at home. So when you go shopping for an elliptical trainer, do you want to buy something expensive or do you want a low cost or discounted unit? The elliptical is an excellent choice for home equipment, especially if you don’t want the traditional home treadmill or exercise bike.

The elliptical trainer uses all the muscles in the lower legs. While it gives you a no-impact workout, the resistance exercise helps to build bone density and fight off osteoporosis. Most machines will come standard with an on-board computer.

With the elliptical machine, all exercises to maintain a healthy bone density can be performed. Most are smaller than a treadmill and can be more easily moved to clean or to store away when company is coming. The general estimates of calories burned are about 387 calories for a 150 pound woman who has done thirty minutes of elliptical exercise.

The basic features of ellipticals include the drive system, the resistance system and the length of the stride. They have also been proven to offer a lower ‘Perceived Rate of Exertion’ whenever you are working out. They are proven to provide workouts that are best for the cardiovascular system.

Elliptical trainers use both the arms and the legs making it a cross trainer, in a real smooth and natural motion. Many people want machines that store well because they want to use them when they need them and hide them in a closet when they’re not using them. Another great thing is that you can move at a comfortable speed while allowing for the occasional burst of high intensities.

If you’re cramped for space or have a small home gym or small workout area, it can be a great way to save space while getting an overall body workout. According to the machine manufacturers, a general estimate of calories burned by an elliptical can go up to 720 calories an hour.

Ellipticals give you a weight resistant workout. This is important because weight resistant workouts burn calories much faster and more efficiently. They can provide the same benefits people get exercising without using equipment. There are many benefits that can be enjoyed by using an elliptical machine and if you’ve shopped wisely you can save a lot of money too.

For information on saving money on elliptical machines and best buy shopping for elliptical trainers online and offline go to http://www.Best-Treadmill-Tips.com a nurse’s website for elliptical trainer tips, advice and resources, including info on elliptical machine ratings and reviews
