abdominal exercises???

Question by (_9$): abdominal exercises???
no matter what abdominal exercises i do, i don’t ever feel like i get a “burn”, i’m never sore the next day. believe me, i work them out and try doing different things. i’ve never had a really flat stomach. my personnal trainers having remarked that i am stronger than i look.

what can i do, to REALLY work them out. i have used the slant board with weights, ball, medicine ball, leg lifts…

i do a lot of house work it gets me sweating abit.

go for a walk with your dog if you have one, if you have no dog get a small one so it doesnt pull you everywhere.

go on holiday run on the sea shore.
get a bus ? get off at a bus stop before yours.

does use cars for short journeys walk instead :)

All I do are Hardcores-holding the pushup position but instead of resting on your hands, rest on your forearms with your hads clasped together. hold the hardcore position for 4-5 minutes and then go into a moving ab exercise like situps/crunchs/leg lifts do 50 of those. I go back and forth for 30 minutes and even though Im fit, I always feel a burn.

It sounds like the exercises you do are primarily targeting your hip flexors, and not your abs. What you really want is to work on your core muscles.

Try a Pilates or Ashtanga Yoga class. That will work your core muscles big time. Also, it is bad to always work your abs and never work your back. Work out both sides of the body to create a balance.

Also any kind of balance exercises will work subtle muscles in your core.

And check out this cool slide show of different exercises.

Ab crunches on the medicine ball are the most effective, followed by “bicycles” on a bench. If you want a burn, you’re going to have to pick exercises that you can’t do for more than 20 reps. Weighted incline situps, machine crunches, or ab pulldowns are good for that.

Why are you so obsessed with your ab exercises? If you want a six-pack, it’s all about cardio and diet.

Maybe your technique is a little off. I use to think my sit-ups made my waist thicker and in a way they can.
If you are talking about the muscle shape that can be adjusted with exercise. Try the Kathy Smith Pilates for abs. It trimmed me right up. Technique is everything.
The lovely soft layer from too many carbo’s only comes off with losing fat not muscle. So running or biking might do more.
Biking and Pilates has me in better shape at 40 than 20 and I only do it a couple of times a week. Good luck!
