Why get a Schwinn recumbent exercise bike? These bikes are still favorites several ways. Recumbent exercise bikes are a big part of Schwinn’s product line. Schwinn holds a reputation for one because across the product line they furnish value. You can choose one of several models. But why choose a Schwinn and not one of the others?

Exercise bikes remain favorite machines even though they have been popular for years. No fad machine, stationary bikes let you exercise at any time at your convenience. That convenience means you will likely spend more time working out. Isn’t that really key to reaching your fitness goals? Just finding a program you can stick with is half the battle. There’s more to it though.

Recumbent bikes provide riding comfort that helps you exercise for longer once you get started on a session. A comfortable seat and a comfortable riding position let you ride with less pain and more gain.

Then, as with most bikes, workouts target the main muscle groups of the body. That way you get a better workout as you are really using your legs and that can give your heart and lungs a workout as well. Using the main muscles is the faster way to real progress. Riding exercise bikes burns calories much like other exercises like running and bicycling. How you burn calories depends on how hard you work, but a comfortable workout often means more calories burned and more fat lost. Then also while toning muscle you increase the rate of metabolism which is key to long term weight loss as well.

Related to coming apart is the rock and roll you get when pedaling a bike. See, exercise bike fitness results from lots of pedaling and the harder and longer you pedal, the faster you improve. The best bikes just sit there rock solid and absorb all the punishment the rider can inflict. Lesser bikes, lighter built, sway and move when the pedal force goes up. That in no way encourages more vigorous riding so what happens? Little, weak bikes get used easy and not for long. If nothing else, a wobbly bike feels like it might dump you off and who needs that?

Even looking at the bike personally can only reveal just so much. It often makes it possible to pick our obvious flaws and weaknesses but there are a number of quality problems that may no show up until some time is on the bike. That’s why the ability to read owner feedback makes for a less risky purchasing experience. After all, even if you can return a bike, it’s still a costly experience, at least in time, to get less of a bike than you want or need. The Schwinn 230 especially has tons of feedbacks and the 240 model though not around for as long is coming on strong with lots of owner comments as well.

If you know for sure you want a recumbent bike, that’s fine. But many upright bikes offer advantages too. Plus the upright stationary exercise bikes offer more for the money. Cost of uprights with the same features is considerably less that recumbents. Then another possibility is the dual action exercise bike, like the Schwinn Air dyne bike. That’s a way to get an exercise bike workout that works arms as well as legs.

What is a good recumbent exercise bike depends on your goals. Based on my experience as a twenty plus year owner of a Schwinn exercise bike, I think moderately priced Schwinn recumbent exercise bikes might be a possible choice. These bikes offer a balance between price, quality and features. What’s more it’s easy to find hundreds of owner comments online to help in the decision process.

I know you burn as many calories as on a treadmill. That treadmills are great for fat burning. Are exercise bikes great for fat burning? (They do burn fat obviously, but alot? same calories so..)

They’re better because they’re not as boring, so you’ll use it more. I own both, and I hate the treadmill. I haven’t used it since I first got it. I use the bike all the time.

Question by ♥Erica♥: How effective are exercise bikes in achieving weight loss?
I have just aquired an exercise bicycle from a friend of mine who was moving that didn’t wish to take it with her.
When I go to the gym (rarely) I usually use the elliptical machine, but since I have this bike now, I would much rather stay at home and workout.
My question is for those of you who ride exercise bikes, is it really just as effective as other machines at weight loss, or will I have to ride at longer intervals to achieve any type of results?
For the record, I’m 26 yrs old, 5’6 and weigh 130lbs, trying to get down to 120lbs, or at least stay in that range.

stationary bikes are awesome for weight loss. Ever hear of spinning? That burngs nearly 800-1200 calories an hour. And you can do it now in your own home. Look up on google some spinning tips, and you’ll be on your way to slimming down fast!! I have heard that bikes are the best way to lose weight..you’re working out your abs, thighs, calves, butt. Do some arm movements while you’re riding, and you’ll slim down in no time.

I go to the gym and use the bike/gliders. they say your distance, heart rate, and some more stuff. it also tells me how many calories i’ve burned. how accurate are they with calorie burning? because according to the machine I burn about 350 each session, and I use it twice, so 700 calories.

Everybody’s body is different. Don’t gauge your performance by what the numbers tell you. Instead, judge your workout by how you feel at the end of it.

Most machines calculate calories burned directly from distance traveled, which isn’t very accurate.

When buying a new or used exercise bike there are a number of things you need to consider to get the right bike for your needs and also one that meets applicable safety standards. Exercise Bike Warranty

Always check to see that the bike has a warranty and compare them. The longer the warranty, the longer the manufacturer stands behind their product. However, watch out for the different time periods covered for the different components. For example the frame may have a different warranty period to the electrical components and labour. Don’t get caught out, as most frame warranty periods are far longer than electrical, parts and labour warranties.

Exercise Bike Standards

Make sure that the bike is compliant (usually they have a sticker on them stating the standards that they meet). Check that moving parts such as the chain and wheel spokes are completely concealed so that a young child cant get their fingers caught. Do not buy an exercise bike without checking it out first. Go to the store and get all the details you need to satisfy yourself that the bike meets your needs. Check that the exercise bike comes with an owner manual and if required, assembly instructions. The manual should give you all the necessary specifications about the bike such as maximum weight the bike can handle and any maintenance requirements.

Question by MSI Magus: How accurate inaccurate are the calorie counters on exercise bikes?
Every day I hope on an exercise bike for about an hour or so. It usually says I burn somewhere between 1,000 and 1,500 calories. I am wondering how close to this number I actually might be hitting. Are these bikes often off by a small amount like 100-200 calories…..or are they frequently off by 100s of calories?

totally inaccurate, they are a rough estimate based on a certain gender of a certain height and weight of a certain age all of which probably dont apply to you unless you are mr or mrs average, i take absolutely no notice of them at all, i would say that on average someone would be burning off approx 600-1000 calories per hour but you would have to be really putting some effort in to get anywhere near that amount of calories burnt.

Exercise bikes often get overlooked with all the high tech fitness machines that are available today. Exercise bikes have

been around for numerous years and many people consider them not as effective or out dated when compared to the newer types

of fitness machines. However, there are a lot of people who consider exercise bikes as a reasonable, consistent, and fun way

to exercise and thereby lose weight and improve their cardiovascular functions.

Exercise bikes offer all the advantages of riding a regular bicycle without any of the disadvantages. They can be used any

time it is convenient, have much less impact on your joints such as the hips and knees than running or walking, and offer

good cardiovascular workouts. Many exercise bikes have either computerized or manual which allow you to adjust your speed and

resistance. Most also come with cardiovascular workouts and heart monitors already programmed in. Also, there is a large

selection of styles and prices and exercise bikes are usually the least expensive types of cardiovascular exercise machines.

In addition, with exercise bikes, you don’t have to be concerned with bad weather, dogs, or traffic. With exercise bikes you

can exercise in the convenience of your own home and even read a book or watch television while you are exercising. That is

not possible while riding a regular bicycle.

Types of Exercise Bikes

Upright, standard exercise bikes come in either dual or single action models. The dual action exercise bikes have levers or

handles to workout the upper body and it has been determined that they improve overall body tone, burn more calories, and

offer a more effective cardiovascular workout than single action exercise bikes. The dual action exercise bikes also work

well for those who have leg or hip injuries who need to exercise but also need to take it easy on their lower bodies. Dual

action exercise bikes permit the arms to do more work in order to operate the machine and therefore require less work from

the legs.

Other types of exercise bikes include recumbent exercise bikes which are literally laid back. These types of exercise bikes

place the body in a fully or semi reclining position which takes pressure off the back area. Many people that at first this

position is difficult to adapt to. However, there are many people who choose recumbent exercise bikes swear that they are

very comfortable and easy to ride. Usually, recumbent exercise bikes have a bigger seat which usually means that you not have

any discomfort and will stay on the machine for a longer period of time.
