There are a wide number of reasons that strength training exercises are valuable for all athletes. Generally they are important in light of the fact that athletes want to be in the best possible physical condition they can when playing important games. When people do not have the proper amount of training in the strength department they will not reach their personal goals.

There are various types of strength that should be taken into consideration. Strength in the muscles of a person is vital to success. The power within the muscular system is essential in order to be able to complete the basics of any sport. Being involved in a weight training program should allow most people to reach their maximum power level. This is helpful because they are able to manipulate a ball during a sporting exercise with relative simplicity.

It is also important to be in peak cardiovascular conditioning. If a person wants to increase their cardiovascular health they should think about running and swimming on a regular basis. This will allow every athlete to raise their heart rate and increased physical endurance. This is very valuable for athletes of any sporting background. This will help them to play for as long as possible.

It is very vital to make sure that person also has strong legs. When they do not have proper leg strength they will have difficulty playing for a sustained length of time. Most sports require at least some level of consistent running. When people do not have the proper quality of leg strength they will not have the ability to keep going over the long-term. It will also lead to a throw that is not always on target.

Having mental strength is also extremely valuable. The ability to overcome adversity is extremely advantageous during any game situation. Sometimes this is more important than the physical attributes of an athlete. Most individuals do not realize that sports are just as much mental as they are physical. When people use the proper mental imaging techniques they will have a greater chance of winning in any high-pressure situation.

It is relatively easy to comprehend the various types of strength training exercises that are needed for athletes. Most athletes are lacking in at least one area. This means they are not as successful as they could be under ideal circumstances. Many times athletes focus on executing plays properly rather than being in the best possible physical condition. This is not going to lead them to the highest level of success.

Abdominal Exercises, Benefits and Limitations

Anyone interested in fitness wants to have great looking abs – firm, rippled and well toned, along with a trim waist. All those are achievable, but beware accepting any myths about flat stomachs and spot reduction around the waist.

 

As you exercise, you consume energy measured in calories. When you consume enough to deplete the available energy, and enough to reduce the sugars that convert easily, the body goes after stored energy. That stored energy is largely in the form of fat deposits in adipose tissue.

 

But that process takes place non-selectively. You don’t get to choose which fat deposits the body converts. That means, you can’t ‘spot reduce’ by working on your abs. The effect is still achievable, but doing abdominal exercises alone doesn’t target that fat.

 

When you focus on the abs, you will build strength in that area, by increasing the muscle mass in those muscles. That’s helpful for a number of reasons. It keeps a firm, strong layer of muscle, which helps keep the stomach, and other internal organs well inside the plane defined by your hips. You get a nice trim, flat look.

 

Abdominal exercises help in another way, too. Since the abdominals are large muscles, they consume a proportionately larger percentage of energy than, say, your jaw muscles. That means that as you work them, they have to be supplied with more energy to move through the range of the exercise. That burns many calories, resulting in weight loss and fat reduction.

 

There is no gadget, supplement or drug currently on the market that will do that safely and effectively as a substitute. It can only be done through proper diet and regular, moderate to heavy exercise. There’s no shortcut to a trim waist, at least not yet.

 

The effect is also limited by genetics and age. Some people store more fat around the middle more readily than others. Gender, obviously, makes a difference as well.

 

Many women in their 40s will naturally develop a pouch in the lower abdomen as their hormones change. Many men will naturally develop ‘love handles’ at the side, since they store fat in adipose tissue there more readily in their 40s than they did in their 20s.

 

In order to achieve the desired effect you have to approach muscle fatigue. There’s no need to perform a hundred crunches to accomplish that. Done correctly, 20 reps are enough. You don’t even have to go to the gym. You can do pelvic tilts while sitting in a chair in the office.

 

But for best effect, warm up and try the following:

 

Lie on your back, with your knees raised and cross your arms across your chest. Then lift your shoulders off the floor and hold for 30 seconds. You can feel the effect on your abs already. To make the exercise more difficult, put your hands at the side of your head. Don’t use your hands to lift your head, just keep them still. For maximum effort, put your hands above your head, and then perform the same shoulder lift and hold, focusing on the abs.

 

Feel the burn. Repeat daily for 10 minutes or twenty reps. In a few weeks, you’ll see definite results.

The incline dumbbel curl is similar to the seated dumbbel curl, except it takes place on an incline.  I recommend taking an incline of, say, 60 degrees.  This’ll ensure that you get the additional range of motion but also don’t feel uncomfortable.  Once you’ve found your seat and are ready to begin the incline dumbbel curls, you can sit down and start with your hands at your sides.  Then curl the dumbbells up one by one.  

Why is the incline dumbbel curl so effective?  Well, most of it has to do with the starting position of your arms.  They start fully extended and even stretched, granting you a greater range of motion.  These will put a good peak on your biceps and will also bulk them up considerably.  The additional range of motion also means you’ll get more workout per lift, making them more efficient than normal curls as well.

The incline dumbbell curl can be modified somewhat so that you can work the outter head of your biceps very intensely.  In order to do this, all you need to do is curl the dumbbell up to the side more than you would normally.  This’ll build up the outside of your bicep very effectively and you won’t be sacrificing any form or range of motion while doing it.

You should integrate the incline dumbbell curl into your arms day.  I don’t recommend doing more than 2-3 biceps exercises a day.  If you do that, however, make note that the biceps are actually not the only elbow flexor.  You’ll also want to work the brachialis and brachioradialis, both of which are fantastic for building mass.
