TheBestWayToExercise.com http TheBestWayToExercise.Blogspot.com “Hanging Hip Lifts” is one of the most challenging exercises for preferential activation of the “lower” abdominal muscles. The secret in performing this movement correctly is the rotation of the hips and a distinct pause at the top of each repetition. Your abs contract on a continuum of graduated activation, in this case, from lower to upper. You cant totally isolate a specific region, but you can focus on it… and this exercise is phenomenal if you want to contract your abs from the bottom up. The key is to make these as slow and as deliberate as possible. Article Source: http://www.articlesbase.com/ – Lower Ab Exercises: Effective Abdominal Exercises for Beginners

Beginners who are starting out in their quest for sexier abs tend to ignore lower ab exercises. They are more likely to go for sit-ups and crunches on the free hand side and may also use some machines for doing abdominal exercises at gyms. Unfortunately, what they miss out in the bargain is that none of these exercises are known to be helpful for lower abs and incidentally they will succumb to fatigue in early stages before they incidentally give up even before they think of doing the actual lower ab exercises. The following couple of suggestions are designed to help them look at lower ab exercises in a different light so as to fit in them.

In the scheme of things, it is difficult to think of quality ab exercises without working out lower ab exercises first. Working out from upper abs and then proceeding to lower abs will be useless as abs muscles will be already under stress subjected to sever fatigue. So, it’s a good idea to start with lower ab exercises and then proceed from there.

A good routine to your lower ab exercises must include reverse curls and leg raises in the core as they are specific to lower ab muscles. Beginning with these makes sure that you have begun on a positive note.

Reverse Curls

The first workout you need to fit into your lower abs workout is none other than reverse curls. Reverse curls entails lifting up your legs both bent at knees almost till they touch your stomach while holding your hands by your side. Repeat this from 10 to 20 times.

Leg Raises

The next exercise you will build in into your lower ab exercises is leg raises. A good practice to do leg raises is by first lying down on the back on the floor and then resting both of your hands by your side. Lift both of your legs simultaneously off of the floor to about 45 degrees taking care not to bend the legs at knee joints. Another thing to keep in mind is not to lower the legs so much as to touch the ground when you lower your legs. Repeat this from 10 to 20 times.

Make it a point to repeat these lower ab exercises 4-5 times a week.

An important and sometimes neglected step in abdominal exercise routines is isolating particular muscles within the abdominal group. One such set of muscles which needs isolation in order to be exercised properly are the muscles in the lower abdominal. There are a number of abdominal exercises which isolate and work these muscles. As with any workout routine, be sure to consult a professional before beginning and always warm up properly to avoid injury.

Crunchless Crunch

This first exercise is fairly simple but can also be fairly difficult. Essentially, it involves trying to pull the belly button in towards the spine. This can be tricky, as it involves using muscles which you may not be used to activating. To start, either lie or on your abdominal or kneel. You might want to try both ways and see which helps you feel the exercise better. Relax your body as much as possible, then try to use only the lower abdominals to move your belly button toward your spine. Hold for ten seconds. If holding for ten seconds feels easy, hold for a longer period. The goal is to hold the contraction until you either cannot feel it, or you feel other muscles working harder than the transverse abdominus. When you feel this, let the contraction out.

Alternating Toe Touch

You will need to lie on a flat surface for this abdominal exercise. The floor works best, using a mat or towel to cushion the spine. Lie on the floor and put your feet up in the air. Extend your right arm and use your lower abdominals to lift your shoulders off the floor. Touch your left toes with your right hand, then lower yourself back down. Switch hands and repeat. Keep your knees straight throughout and maintain a space between your chin and chest.

Sit-Up Hold

While you are still on the floor, try this abdominal exercise. Bend your knees so your feet are flat on the floor and position your hands behind your head. Keep your elbows back so you cannot see them– do not put them alongside your head. Use your lower abdominals to lift your shoulders off the floor. Hold for ten seconds. You may increase the number of seconds you hold as it gets easier. Be sure to lift with your abdominals and not with your arms or neck.

Lower Back Flatten

This abdominal exercise is a good natural progression from the sit-up hold, as it starts from the same basic position: lying down, knees bent, feet flat. You may have noticed when you did the previous exercise that there is a natural space between your lower back and the floor, created by the curve of your spine. In this exercise, you want to use your lower abdominals to push your lower back toward the floor and eliminate this space. Try to focus on pushing with only your lower abdominals and not your legs. Your pelvis will rotate slightly, which is fine so long as the lower abdominals are doing the work. Once you have got your back flat to the floor, hold the contraction for ten seconds. Again, you should continue to build on this time as your abdominal muscles gain strength and

Question by hahaha.: What are some good abs exercises for lower abs?
Any abs exercises you know of are helpful but im working specifically on lower abs.

Best answer:

Answer by Nate
Hey there,

Anything that works your upper abdominals will work your lower ones as they are all the same muscle the “rectus abdominus.” But if you really want to target the lower abdominals specifically then any movements that involve lifting your legs really work the lower abs and hip flexor muscles.

The best exercises are:

- Leg raises
- Hanging leg raises
- Reverse crunches
- Scissor kicks
- Hip thrusts

Hope this helps!

Lower Ab Exercises: Effective Abdominal Exercises for Beginners

It is all about precisely knowing what to do, how to avoid mistakes when it comes to abdominal exercises, no matter at what age you begin. Download my FREE step-by-step, pictorial ab exercises guide on your way to freedom.

get more lower abdominals abdominals workout abdominal muscles abdominais

get more lower abdominals abdominals workout abdominal muscles abdominais

The basics of weight training are relatively simple but you can progress all the way to the complex Olympic lifts, the clean and jerk and the snatch, if that’s your inclination. There’s no need to get too fussy about which particular exercise version you do when starting out, as long as you protect yourself from injury with correct technique. Like starting any new exercise program, go easy at the beginning, build complexity later. As one well-known lifter was heard to say: “Get on with it: lift the darn weights!”

What is Weight Training?

Weight training is organized exercise in which muscles of the body are made to contract in response to external weights, body exercise or resistance, or other devices in order to stimulate growth and strength. Weight training is also called ‘resistance training’ and ‘strength training’.

What are the Benefits of Weight Training?

Weight or resistance training or strength training has important benefits beyond building big muscles, which is often the focus of much media attention. Weight training can:

* Tone and shape the body for weight loss, personal appearance or bodybuilding competition.

* Improve sporting performance by increasing bulk, strength, power and endurance in sports such as football, baseball, hockey, cycling and most individual and team sports.

* Prepare you for competition weight lifting in Olympic lifting and Powerlifting sports.

* Prevent lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, osteoporosis and obesity.

* Build strength and improve balance and functionality, especially as we age.

* Assist in recovery from, or management of, chronic illnesses or conditions such as heart disease, stroke, hip replacement and arthritis.

* Assist in physical therapy during recovery from accident and hospitalization.

* Prepare soldiers for service and combat readiness or for any other activity requiring strength and power.

Where Should I Do My Weight Training?

You can train at a gymnasium, health club or fitness center or at home. Some workplaces install workout gyms and many holiday resorts also have at least basic equipment. Some people prefer to train at home with their own weights and equipment. You will find advantages and disadvantages to each approach.

Still others like open air activity and take portable equipment such as resistance bands and tubes to parks and fields.

What Equipment Do I Need To Start Weight Training?

At the very least you need a solid pair of shoes with a non-slip sole, a water bottle, a towel and appropriate clothing. For a home workout, starting equipment could include an adjustable weights bench for doing various exercises; dumbbells — perhaps even only two or three different weights; an adjustable step for aerobic stepping; an exercise or yoga mat for floor exercises, and a fitness ball, which is an inflatable ball on which a variety of body exercises can be performed.

Using your own body to contract muscles is a substantial part of weight training. A pushup is a good example of using the body’s own weight to train arm and chest muscles. Chinups and situps are other examples.

What Equipment is Available at Gyms and Fitness Centers?

Gyms usually have a combination of free weights, machines, chairs, benches, balls and bands. The free weights tend to be used in a room or area separate from the machines and other equipment, but not always. It depends on the club.

Free weights tend to be fairly standard with barbells, dumbbells, bars with adjustable plate weights, perhaps Kettlebells and a few other pieces of ancillary equipment such as racks and cages.

Machines such as treadmills, step machines, cross trainers, rowing machines, cable weights, pulldown machines, assisted dip machines and multi-gyms, to name a few, seem to be growing in design and function faster than global warming, while even fancy electronic things with swipe cards to remember you by are seen in some places.

Do I Need a Personal Trainer?

Hiring a personal trainer (PT) is a good idea, but you need to be sure that the person is qualified and has some sort of track record of quality work. A PT can be engaged privately or you can usually hire one at the gym for an hourly rate. Many gyms include at least one training session or walk-through with your membership, during which you get to try out different exercise machines and weights. A training program may also be included. You should check this out with any prospective gym before signing up.

High school, college and university gyms, coaches and trainers no doubt vary in quality and expertise, yet they can be an excellent introduction.

How Should I Warm Up and Cool Down?

A warmup should include light aerobic exercise for ten to fifteen minutes. Before doing any lifting exercise with weights a few repetitions with a lighter weight than chosen for the main exercise is a good strategy.

A cool down may help to reduce muscle soreness in the following hours. Cool down with light stretching, callisthenics or by performing a slower version of the activity; for example, a slow jog for runners, a slow swim for swimmers.

Lower Abdominal Exercises versus Upper Abdominal Exercises

In fitness, some people are confused about the topic of upper abs exercises and lower abs exercises, so here is some information to set the record straight.  The main muscle, that people talk about when they discuss the upper abs and lower abs, is the rectus abdominus.  Rectus means straight, and abdominus refers to the abdomen.  So simply put, the rectus abdominus runs straight down the abdomen.  The rectus abdominus is also the muscle that gives a lean person that six pack look.

The rectus abdominus is 1 muscle, but it has tendinous intersections that separate muscle fibers forming distinct sections.  Many people argue that because the rectus abdominus is one muscle you cannot isolate certain parts of the muscle, but I think the conversations around this topic get confusing because of semantics.  You cannot isolate only one section of the rectus abdominus while the other sections are not working, but you can emphasize one area over another.  So the problem comes with people using the terms isolate and emphasize interchangeably.

Our nervous system is so intricate.  Each nerve has thousands of nerve cells and each muscle has thousands of muscle fibers.  This allows us to move with accuracy, precision, agility, and grace.  The rectus abdominus is supplied by multiple nerves that work in a coordinated fashion to create a variety of movements.  The multiple nerve supply helps us move in different ways, and the upper abs and lower abs are emphasized when we do different movement.

The upper abs (upper part of the rectus abdominus) are emphasized when the trunk moves forward like in a crunch or sit up.  Ball crunches are also a good upper abdominal exercise, and crunch machines and ab machines will also emphasize the upper abs.  Even though the upper abs are emphasized during crunches, crunches also work the lower abs.  The entire rectus abdominus will work during any abs exercise when your trunk bends forwards or flexes.

There is just more emphasis on the lower abs when the legs are moving.

Now, one thing that I must mention is that abs exercises do not magically melt away stomach fat.  Doing upper abs exercises will not magically get rid of the fat on the upper part of your stomach, and doing lower abs exercises will not magically get rid of the fat on the lower part of your stomach.  This is known as the spot reduction myth.  If you want to lose stomach fat, you should use a comprehensive approach to fitness and healthy eating.

In regards to your ab workout, try to exercise your abdominal muscles 2-3 times a week, and include both upper ab and lower abs exercises to work your body from a variety of directions.  By using different forms of exercises, you will have a more balanced body.

Lower Abdominal Exercise – Toning Up the Lower Abdominals

Getting a tone lower abdomen can be a tricky process most of the exercises you see target the upper and middle abdominal areas. Finding exercises that are going to target the lower abdominal muscles effectively can be difficult. This is because many people do not realize the types of exercises that target these lower muscles.

For the most part these exercises actually involve the use of your legs. You work these muscles by pulling your legs up and tilting your pelvic muscles up and out. These work the harder to reach muscles that are found in the lower pelvic region. You can even target these muscles with more traditional abdominal exercises for example a crunch by lifting your legs at the same time you come up in the crunch.

This however can be difficult for some individuals. It is considered a more advanced abdominal exercise. For those looking for less advanced abdominal exercises that work on the lower abdomen consider simply lifting your legs. It works best to lift both at the same time curl your pelvis up and in towards your body. This will help you tighten up the muscles on the lower abdomen.

The muscles of the lower abdomen can be difficult muscles to get too through traditional styles of exercise. Women may have more difficulty with this area than men may especially if they have had children or been pregnant since the abdomen muscles especially the lower ones take the most stretch and weight during the pregnancy. You can also use an exercise ball in order to assist with providing a low resistance form of these exercise, to add more resistance consider using resistance bands or weights. This can help create a more advanced lower abdominal exercise while still maintaining its simplicity and ease of execution.

There are a number of ways that you can accomplish providing resistance, expanding on and making these types of exercises more difficult as your muscles strengthen and advance. Check with the exercises to see what type of muscles tone they are going to provide. If you are looking for lean and tone you may want to try different exercises than if you are looking for the built muscular look that comes from strength training.

Before starting any exercise program or routine, it is important to check with your primary health care provider as well as a fitness expert in order to ensure that you are doing the exercise properly and it will give you the results you want. Starting any type of exercise program can be a great thing and finding an exercise or exercise set that is, going to provide you with what you need to get back into shape should not be fraught with avoidance. Making sure that you are using an exercise program that is going to get you results without going outside of your fitness level and is still able to be adapted as you advance can be difficult but it can also be rewarding and a great way to start a new lifestyle.

Exercising at home as many advantages, as discussed in our article Where to Weight Train: Home or Gym. If you do decide home is the best place for you, the next step is to decide what equipment you need. Before you head out to the nearest shop, here are a few things to consider first. All prices mentioned are in US dollars.

A ‘home gym’ can be a place where you exercise and lift weights, and a home gym is also a compact unit of equipment designed to allow you to perform many exercises at the one station. These are also called ‘multi-gyms’ — workstations designed to fit into a spare room, basement or garage so that you can do weight training at home. I’ll mostly use the term multi-gyms or ‘multis’ in this article.

The most-popular, mid-range multi-gyms usually include the following:

– adjustable bench for sitting or reclining

– stacked metal weights with pin selection for load

– pulldown bars mainly for the lat pulldown back exercise

– press bars for pushing and pulling, for shoulders, arms and back

– leg extension system for quadricep muscles of the thigh

– leg curl system for exercising the hamstrings at back of the thigh

– seated cable row system for back and arms exercise.

Types of Home Gym Setups

You have many options in setting up a home gym, but the choices for weight training mostly fall into the categories below. Aerobic exercise equipment such as treadmills, rowers and stationary bikes are always options; but for now I’ll concentrate on strength training equipment.

1. Combinations of portable equipment. Dumbbells, bench, balls, steps, bands, mats, ab workers etc. Nothing too complex here, just basic but extensible equipment. The Reebok Weight Bench with included dumbbell set is a popular starter.

2. ‘Free weight’ stations. Adjustable benches, power racks for holding barbells, dumbbells, barbells and plates (round weights). Mostly movable equipment for more heavy duty use.

3. Multi-gyms based on steel or composite bands and cords. The flexing band creates the resistance. Bowflex brand is best known, Weider Advantage is an example.

4. Total Gym concept. This idea uses an adjustable height, inclined bench and sliding seat platform that uses your own body weight to increase resistance. Example: Total Gym 1500.

5. Multi-gyms based on stacked weights. This most popular configuration uses a cable and pulley mechanism with stacked weights. You move the peg to select the weight. Example: Body Solid EXM series.

6. Multi-gyms with provision for free weight plates. The round weights are manually fitted to the barbell extensions. Example: Powertec Workbench. (Note: weights are extra.)

7. Smith machine multi combinations. The standard Smith machine uses a mechanism that constrains the bar in one vertical plane, unlike free-weight benches and racks. These home gym multis add additional attachments to achieve a versatile workstation. Example: Mega Smith System.

What Do I Want to Achieve?

To help you decide which way to go with gym equipment, you should consider what your goals and commitment are. If you’re starting out with weight training, unless you’re really sure of your requirements and commitment, I would recommend you try option ’1′ in the gym type list because there’s a lot of unused, expensive equipment languishing in spare rooms because people got bored with it and went down to the gym instead. Now I didn’t say ‘because people gave up’ — that’s not going to be you, right?
